The Presidency has strongly criticized popular entertainer and influencer, Tunde Ednut, accusing him of spreading falsehood about Nigeria’s security challenges.
Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant on Social Media to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, faulted Ednut’s claim that Nigeria is unsafe, describing his actions as reckless and misleading.
Ednut had earlier cautioned Nigerians on Instagram to avoid moving around at night, alleging that politicians were deceiving the public with claims that the country is safe.
In a swift reaction on 𝕏, Olusegun alleged that Ednut used a video from South Africa to back his claims. He warned that such actions amount to clout-chasing and misinforming the public.
“Tunde Ednut has reduced himself to a misinformation monster that needs to be checked. How desperate can one be to post a video from South Africa just to prove Nigeria is unsafe?” Olusegun wrote.
The Presidency further highlighted recent security achievements, including the arrest of terrorist leaders, improved safety on the Abuja–Kaduna highway, and reduced IPOB attacks after Simon Ekpa’s arrest.
While admitting that Nigeria still faces insecurity, Olusegun stressed that progress has been made and accused Ednut of deliberately painting the nation in a negative light for social media engagement.
The statement concluded with a stern caution:
“Tunde Ednut must do better. This is all shades of wrong.”
