Obasanjo Fires at Tinubu: A Government That Fails to Secure Its Citizens Has No Right to Exist

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has delivered a blistering criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of failing in its most fundamental duty—protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.

Speaking during an interview with News Central, Obasanjo lamented the deepening insecurity across the country, where persistent attacks, killings, and abductions have continued to claim lives and spread fear among citizens.

“The government that cannot give security of life and property of its citizens has no right of existence,” the former president declared, underscoring his frustration with the current state of affairs.

His comments come amid mounting public anger over the worsening security situation in several parts of the country, with many Nigerians demanding stronger and more decisive action from the federal government.

Obasanjo also criticized the National Assembly over the issue of lawmakers determining their own salaries and allowances.

He insisted that such authority does not reside with legislators under the Nigerian Constitution.

According to him, the responsibility for fixing the remuneration of elected officials and other public office holders lies solely with the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

The former president’s remarks are expected to further fuel national conversations about insecurity, governance, and accountability under the Tinubu administration.
