During a high-level meeting in Canada, U.S. President Donald Trump received an unexpected gift from Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo—a signed jersey bearing a handwritten message.
The jersey, delivered by European Council President António Costa, featured the inscription: “To President Donald J. Trump, Playing for Peace.”
Photos of the exchange were posted on social media by Costa, showing Trump holding the jersey and a close-up of the message. “To President @realdonaldtrump. Playing for peace. As a team,” Costa wrote in his caption on X.
Margo Martin, a communications advisor to President Trump, also shared a video of the moment. In it, Costa informs the president of the “special message” written on the shirt. After reading it aloud, Trump responded: “Oh, I like that. Playing for peace,” before holding up the jersey and saying, “That’s great.”
The symbolic gesture comes amid international discussions on global security and cooperation.
