Troops Eliminate Dozens of Insurgents in Borno Offensive, Recover Bodies and Weapons
Nigerian military forces under the Joint Task Force in the North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully repelled an ആക്രമ on one of their positions in Borno State, leaving several insurgents dead.
According to a statement released by the task force’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday when suspected ISWAP fighters launched an assault on the Forward Operating Base in Mandaragirau, located in Sector 2 of the state.
The troops responded with a coordinated counterattack, combining ground resistance with tactical ambushes that disrupted the attackers’ advance and forced them to retreat in disarray.
Air support was also deployed during the operation, providing precision strikes that intensified the pressure on the fleeing insurgents.
Military sources revealed that follow-up operations along the escape routes inflicted additional casualties on the group.
While eight bodies were immediately recovered at the scene, intelligence gathered from local residents indicated that more than 30 others were killed during the pursuit, with bodies and weapons scattered across areas stretching from Garin Mallum through Garin Gajere towards the Timbuktu Triangle.
Security personnel also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including multiple AK-47 rifles, loaded magazines, rocket-propelled grenade bombs, and other supplies abandoned during the retreat.
Notably, no fatalities were recorded among the troops, although one Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle sustained damage from an RPG attack. Injured personnel were promptly attended to and are reported to be stable.
The military described the outcome as a significant blow to insurgent activities in the region, noting that the operation has boosted morale among residents who have long faced security challenges.
