UEFA Referee Arrested in UK Over Alleged Sexual Assault of Teenage Boy
A UEFA referee has been arrested in the United Kingdom over allegations of sexually assaulting a teenage boy while in the country to officiate a European football match.
The official, described as a foreign national, was reportedly staying at a hotel when the alleged incident occurred.
He is accused of inappropriate physical contact with the teenager in a public area before allegedly attempting to lure him to his room.
According to reports, the matter was immediately reported to the police, although the referee went on to officiate the scheduled match before his arrest.
He was later apprehended by officers upon his return to the hotel, where members of the UEFA delegation were also present.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a man in his 30s was arrested in connection with the allegation. He has since been released on bail while investigations continue.
UEFA has suspended the official from all its competitions pending the outcome of the investigation. FIFA has also removed him from consideration for future assignments until the case is resolved.
Authorities have not disclosed the suspect’s identity, and no formal charges have been filed at this stage.
