The 2025 Club World Cup will not feature a third-place match, leaving Real Madrid and Fluminense to head home before the weekend.
Madrid endured a crushing 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in their semi-final, while Chelsea triumphed 2-0 over Fluminense. As a result, PSG will now face Chelsea in the final on Sunday.
Unlike many other major tournaments where the semi-final losers meet to battle for third place, FIFA has made a surprising decision to omit the match this year. In an official statement, FIFA explained:
“There will be no third-place match or bronze final at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. For the inaugural edition of this elite global competition, FIFA opted to remove this fixture to allow clubs and players who do not reach the final to quickly transition to their next commitments
