The 2025 Club World Cup has reached a turning point, with seven teams now officially eliminated from the competition. The latest exits came after a dramatic weekend of group-stage action, where two sides were completely overwhelmed by their opponents and saw their hopes of advancing crushed.
In Group G, both eliminated teams suffered back-to-back losses. One fell 2-0 in their opening game, then struggled again in a 4-1 defeat. The other endured a tough run, losing 5-0 in their first outing and then being dismantled 6-0 in their second. The heavy defeats not only sealed their fate but also confirmed progression for two of Europe’s strongest clubs, who have now qualified with a game to spare.
With no points from their two matches, the eliminated teams will now play their final group fixtures with nothing but pride at stake.
Earlier in the tournament, five other clubs had already been knocked out following poor results in their respective groups. These early exits reflect the high level of competition this year, as clubs from across the globe struggle to keep up with the intensity and quality on display.
As the group stage enters its final stretch, the pressure is rising. Several teams are still in contention, and every match from here on could determine who survives and who goes home. The battle for a place in the knockout rounds is well and truly underway.
