Hulk Hogan, one of the most iconic names in professional wrestling, has passed away at the age of 71, WWE confirmed on Thursday. The tragic news was first reported by TMZ Sports, which stated that paramedics responded to a call for a “cardiac arrest” at Hogan’s home in Clearwater, Florida, earlier this morning.
Hogan, whose real name was Terry Gene Bollea, was a key figure in the rise of WWE during the 1980s. Known for his larger-than-life persona, trademark moustache, and bandanas, he helped the company gain worldwide recognition and became one of the most recognizable faces in sports entertainment history.
Although Hogan retired from wrestling in 2012, he remained a significant presence in the industry, continuing as a WWE ambassador and taking on new ventures.
This year, he had been preparing to lead a new wrestling league, Real American Freestyle Wrestling, in a move that surprised some of his long-time fans.
Hogan is survived by his family and leaves behind a legacy that transformed the world of professional wrestling.
