KENYA: Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon Clinches Historic Third Consecutive Olympic Gold in 1500m

Faith Kipyegon of Kenya has solidified her status as the queen of the 1500m by winning her third consecutive Olympic gold in the event at the Paris 2024 Games.

Kipyegon, a three-time world champion and world record-holder, clocked an impressive 3:51.29, shaving two seconds off her previous Olympic record set in Tokyo. Reflecting on her victory, Kipyegon expressed gratitude to her supporters and credited her success to staying calm and focused despite the pressures from a previous dramatic race in the 5000m.

Kipyegon shared, “When I was on that start line, I was just thinking about what happened in the 5000m. But to come out and execute after that dramatic race was just amazing. I really thank all the people who supported me.” In a thrilling finish, Australia’s Jessica Hull secured the silver with a time of 3:52.56, while Great Britain’s Georgia Bell claimed bronze, setting a national record of 3:52.61.
