Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has renamed the recently reconstructed Obinagu Road as Mike Ejeagha Crescent, in honor of the legendary highlife musician, ‘Gentleman’ Mike Ejeagha. This gesture, announced during the commissioning of four roads in Abakpa Nike, in Enugu State.
This is part of the government’s efforts to celebrate Ejeagha’s immense contributions to Enugu’s cultural heritage.Mbah emphasized the importance of recognizing the 93-year-old musician’s achievements while he is still alive, stating, “In recognition of Mike Ejeagha’s immense contributions to the cultural heritage of Enugu State, we have renamed Obinagu Road to Mike Ejeagha Road.”
The governor also pledged continued support for Ejeagha and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development across the state, including the construction of 141 roads. The renaming follows a recent resurgence in Ejeagha’s music, highlighted by the viral success of his 1983 hit, “Ka Esi Le Onye Isi Oche,” which gained popularity through a dance challenge initiated by comedian Brain Jotter.
