A wave of protests erupted across the United States, with thousands of people in cities nationwide expressing their discontent with President Donald Trump’s leadership and policies. Dubbed the “Hands Off” protests, this marks the largest coordinated opposition to Trump since his second term began in January.
The protests took place in over 1,200 locations across all 50 states, including major cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, and Washington, D.C.
Demonstrators voiced a variety of concerns, ranging from Trump’s controversial immigration policies to his economic decisions, such as imposing tariffs on imports.
The discontent was not confined to the U.S., as rallies also took place in global cities like London, Paris, and Berlin, where protesters carried signs reading “WTAF America?” and chanted slogans like “hands off Canada” and “hands off Ukraine” in response to Trump’s foreign policy.
In Boston, protests intensified after the arrest of Turkish student Rumeysa Ozturk during an immigration raid, which quickly went viral. Law student Katie Smith, present at the rally, urged action, saying, “You can stand up today or you can be taken later.”
In Washington, D.C., speakers including Congressman Maxwell Frost criticized the administration, accusing it of being controlled by billionaires and promising that the people would respond through voting and protesting.
Despite the widespread unrest, Trump appeared indifferent, spending the day golfing at one of his Florida resorts, a move that did not go unnoticed by demonstrators.
His administration quickly issued a defense, claiming that Trump would protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, while accusing Democrats of trying to bankrupt these programs.
