At least 31 Sudanese civilians, including children, were executed by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Omdurman, the twin city of Khartoum, according to local medics on Sunday.
The victims, including minors, were killed in the Al-Salha area, which the Sudan Doctors Network described as “the largest documented mass killing in the region.”
The RSF reportedly accused the civilians of supporting the Sudanese army in the ongoing conflict, with the group labeling them “affiliates” of the military.
Activists shared disturbing footage on social media showing RSF fighters in uniform shooting at a group of civilians in the Al-Salha neighborhood.
The Sudan Doctors Network condemned the bloodshed, calling it a “war crime and a crime against humanity,” and urged the international community to “take urgent action to rescue the remaining civilians” by opening safe exit routes from the area.
Since April 2023, the RSF has been in violent confrontation with Sudanese army forces, leading to thousands of deaths and a humanitarian crisis.
According to the UN, more than 20,000 people have died, and 15 million others have been displaced, while some estimates, including those from US scholars, suggest the death toll could be as high as 130,000.
