The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old groom and his three friends in connection with the death of his bride.
According to reports, the incident occurred on April 26, 2025, in Tungo village, Albasu District.
The police alleged that the groom and his friends coerced the bride into non-consensual sexual activity, which resulted in her death.
The suspects have been identified as Auwal Abdulwahab (the groom), Nura Basiru, Muttaka Lawan, and Hamisu Musa.
Police spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, stated that “the groom is alleged to have conspired with his three friends, entered into their matrimonial home with the intention of coercing his bride into non-consensual sexual activity, while in the process, the said wife died.”
Preliminary investigation revealed that the bride had reportedly disagreed with her husband on marital relations until their wedding.
The police swiftly responded to the report, and the body was evacuated to Gumel General Hospital for medical examination.
SP Adam added that “after the investigation is completed, all suspects will be prosecuted accordingly.
The suspects will face two charges under relevant laws of the jurisdiction, including criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.”
The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, CP AT Abdullahi, has directed that the case be immediately transferred to the State CID Dutse for discreet investigation. The police are committed to ensuring justice is served in this case.
