Dominion City Church in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos State, held a special Father’s Day celebration on Sunday, filled with prayers, praise, worship, and an impactful message focused on the true essence of fatherhood.

The Senior Pastor of the branch, Pastor CJ, delivered the sermon, describing fatherhood as the root of a tree, vital and foundational. He emphasized that a father’s role goes beyond being the physical head of the home, highlighting the need for spiritual leadership within the family.

Pastor CJ urged fathers to live as role models for their children, stressing that children often learn more by observing actions than by listening to words. He advised men from troubled or broken homes not to carry past traumas into their marriages, reminding them that previous generations acted based on the limited knowledge they had.

He also admonished fathers to avoid destructive habits and instead become godly, loving leaders in their homes. He spoke about the importance of wise discipline and encouraged wives to support and submit to their husbands in mutual respect, promoting a balanced and peaceful household.

Addressing men’s health and societal expectations, Pastor CJ pointed out that many men take on risky, strenuous jobs in order to provide for their families, often ignoring early signs of health issues. He explained that this pressure contributes to the early death of many men. The pastor also corrected the common misinterpretation of 1 Timothy 5:8, clarifying that the passage emphasizes care for one’s household ; a responsibility not meant for men alone, but one to be shared with supportive spouses.

The service continued with a lively interactive session, where members of the congregation asked questions and received practical answers from the church’s leadership.

The event climaxed with a special thanksgiving offering by the fathers in honour of Father’s Day.

Speaking to Africaworldnews, after the service, several congregants expressed joy and gratitude. Many said they had gained new understanding about parenting and were committed to raising disciplined, responsible children who would contribute positively to the nation. They described the celebration as enlightening and timely, especially in a society yearning for change and moral renewal.
