A Magistrate’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos has ordered two DNA tests to officially determine the paternity of Liam Aloba, the son of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Aloba).

• Who requested it?
The application was filed by Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Mohbad. He sought a paternity test due to ongoing uncertainty, emphasizing the importance of resolving the issue for Liam’s welfare and potential maintenance obligations.

• Respondent:
Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, Mohbad’s wife (Liam’s mother), was named as the respondent. Notably, she did not oppose the request, and her legal counsel supported the proceeding.

• What did the court order?

• Two DNA tests: one to be carried out in Nigeria, and another abroad .

• These must be done in accredited and recognized medical facilities both locally and internationally .

• The court specifically directed that the Chief Medical Officer or Pathologist at the Military Hospital in Yaba, Lagos (where Mohbad’s remains are held) should extract suitable samples (such as tissue or hair) for testing .

• Both parties or their representatives are required to be present during the sample collection .

• Next court date:
Further proceedings were adjourned to November 11, 2025 .

Why the Order Matters

• Legal clarity and welfare: The father of the deceased highlighted that resolving paternity is crucial for Liam’s welfare, particularly regarding maintenance and any legal documentation or rights .

• Neutral stance from the widow: The lack of opposition from the mother helps simplify the process and focus on obtaining factual results via the ordered DNA tests.
