My appointor has the right to sack me — Wike Fires Back at Sack Calls, Dares Critics

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pushed back strongly against growing demands for his removal from office, declaring that only President Bola Tinubu has the power to decide his political future.

The former Rivers State governor spoke amid rising tension in Rivers politics and increasing pressure from political groups who believe his continued stay in the federal cabinet is worsening the crisis between him and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In recent days, a coalition of APC leaders operating under the APC Leaders Forum (ALF) and the Tinubu/Shettima Solidarity Movement (TSSM) issued an open letter calling on President Tinubu to sack Wike as FCT minister.

The group accused him of insubordination, anti-party conduct and actions capable of threatening national cohesion.

They argued that removing Wike would help douse the political fire raging in Rivers State, where a long-running power struggle has divided the state’s political leadership and disrupted governance.

However, Wike dismissed the campaign against him as political grandstanding, insisting that the President does not require pressure from any group to take action.

Speaking during a “thank you” visit to Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Wike said his position remains secure as long as President Tinubu is satisfied with his performance.

“If my appointor believes that I cannot offer anything again, he has the right. But nobody should tell him what to do,” Wike said.
He added that the constant criticism against him is a reflection of the impact he is making as FCT minister.

“If you are not doing well, nobody will talk about you. But when you are delivering results, people must talk,” he stated.

Wike also took a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his political supporters ahead of the 2027 general election, questioning their ability to win elections.

According to him, those positioning themselves as power brokers lack the electoral strength to deliver victory.

“They could not even give Atiku ten percent in the last election, yet they are now talking about delivering the presidency,” he said.

Wike insisted that the ruling party remains firmly in control of the political terrain ahead of 2027, adding that political contests will be settled at the ballot box.

As pressure mounts from critics and party rivals, the FCT minister’s defiant response signals that the battle lines remain drawn — with the final decision now resting solely with President Tinubu.
