Zone 2 Police Bust Lagos Drug Syndicate, Recover 425 Bags of ‘Canadian Loud’
The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, has uncovered 425 bags of substances suspected to be “Canadian Loud” during a major anti-drug operation in the Mende area of Maryland, Lagos.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the Zone, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the breakthrough recorded by detectives attached to the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID), Onikan, Lagos.
Jimoh said the operation followed actionable intelligence received from a concerned citizen regarding alleged drug trafficking activities being carried out by a suspected 41-year-old drug kingpin.
According to him, detectives subsequently placed the suspect under surveillance for several months before he was eventually tracked and apprehended on May 19.
The AIG said the suspect later led operatives to a three-bedroom apartment located at No. 10 Olori Adekemi Ajibola Street, Arowojobe Estate, Mende, Maryland, Lagos, allegedly used as a warehouse for storing illicit substances.
He said a thorough search of the apartment led to the recovery of 425 bags containing substances suspected to be Canadian Loud concealed in one of the rooms.
Jimoh explained that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly disguised his activities under the cover of selling thermal paper rolls used by Point of Sale (POS) machines for printing receipts.
“The suspect uses online platforms to trade and distribute the prohibited substances within and outside Lagos State,” he said.
The police boss further disclosed that three vehicles fitted with forged special number plates were recovered during the operation.
According to him, the vehicles were allegedly used by the suspect to evade security checks while transporting illicit drugs.
He said other items recovered during the operation included two BYD electric vehicles with forged presidency number plates marked NYCN 98SE, as well as one Leopard hybrid vehicle bearing a forged presidency number plate marked NYCN 10SE.
The AIG added that detectives also recovered three Android phones, one Republic of Liberia resident permit card, two ATM cards and an Emporio Armani wristwatch.
Jimoh said investigation had been intensified to apprehend other members of the syndicate and ensure that everyone linked to the illegal drug operation was brought to justice.
He assured members of the public that the command would continue to provide updates on the case, adding that the suspect would be arraigned upon conclusion of investigations.
