‘He Could Have Studied Abroad’: Kwankwaso’s Son’s Graduation in Nigeria Sparks Reactions
The graduation of Alamin Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, son of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has triggered an unexpected conversation online.
Alamin recently graduated from Nile University of Nigeria and shared photographs from the ceremony on Instagram on Tuesday, July 21.
In the pictures, he posed with his father, siblings and other family members as they celebrated his academic achievement.
His message accompanying the photographs was short and simple: “Alhamdullilah.”
However, many Nigerians were more interested in the institution where he earned his degree.
Rather than attending a university overseas, Alamin completed his studies at a Nigerian institution. The decision drew attention because the children of many prominent politicians and wealthy Nigerians are often educated abroad.
Social media users praised the family, with some describing the decision as rare among Nigeria’s political class.
“Could afford abroad but chose to educate him in Nigeria. That’s rare from Nigerian politicians,” one user wrote.
Another commenter reacted with surprise: “Wait so some politicians’ children dey Nigeria? Ah, wow.”
Some users described the decision as an example of confidence in Nigeria’s education system, while others used the moment to criticise politicians whose children study abroad despite their public positions and influence over the country’s institutions.
For Alamin, the occasion marked a major academic milestone. For many Nigerians online, however, his graduation has also opened a debate about whether the country’s political elite truly believe in the systems they are expected to lead.
