The Anambra State Government, in collaboration with the Carter Centre, has successfully provided free Hydrocelectomy surgeries for 165 patients across the state.
This initiative, which began on March 18, took place at three general hospitals: Enugwu-Ukwu, Umueri, and Ekwulobia.
Hydrocelectomy is a surgery to remove a hydrocele, a fluid-filled sac in the scrotum, which can cause pain, discomfort, or affect daily life. Dr. Afam Obidike, the Commissioner for Health, explained that this program was designed to help individuals, especially in rural areas, who suffer from hydrocele.
He highlighted that the medical team reported no complications during the surgeries.
Dr. Obidike praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the Carter Centre for their support, emphasizing that the initiative demonstrates both the skill of healthcare workers in Anambra and the state’s commitment to improving healthcare.
“This program has restored the confidence of those affected by hydrocele,” he said.
Dr. Chinenye Obi, Chief Medical Officer at Umueri General Hospital, assured that the facility was well-equipped for the surgeries, with no casualties reported since the program’s start.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Somadina Nzegwu from Umuoba-Anam in Anambra East Local Government Area, expressed his gratitude, sharing that he previously spent over N380,000 on a similar procedure, which later recurred.
He thanked the government and the Carter Centre for providing the free surgery.
Through this initiative, the Anambra State Government is not only addressing an important health issue but also improving the lives of many residents, restoring their well-being and confidence.
