The All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently in the lead in Lagos State’s local government elections, with vote sorting and collation still underway across the state’s 57 local government and local council development areas.
Despite a generally smooth election process, voter turnout has been relatively low in several polling units across Lagos.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who cast his vote at his polling unit in Adeniji-Adele, addressed the media shortly after voting. He acknowledged some initial logistical issues that caused delays in starting the voting process in some locations, citing transportation challenges as the main factor.
By 4:00 pm, early unofficial results from various polling stations indicated a strong lead for the APC, particularly in areas like Sanwo-Olu’s polling unit 006 at St. Stevens Nursery and Primary School in Adeniji-Adele. Other areas showing a significant APC presence include Yaba, Somolu, Bariga, Ikeja, and Agege.
Initial reports suggest that the APC is ahead in both the chairmanship and councillorship contests. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is trailing in second place, with the Labour Party (LP) following in third.
Final results will be released by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) after the collation process is completed.
