Torrential rains have devastated Central America over the past week, causing landslides and flooding that have killed at least 27 people.

El Salvador was hardest hit, with 19 deaths, including two young girls buried by a landslide. Preventative evacuations were carried out in high-risk areas. In Guatemala, seven deaths were reported, with roads and bridges heavily damaged. Honduras saw one fatality, with 3,500 people affected and over 200 homes damaged. Several communities in southern Honduras remain isolated due to rising river levels.

Nicaragua has reported no fatalities but is experiencing rising rivers and flood threats. The heavy rains are linked to low pressure over the Pacific Ocean and the effects of Tropical Storm Alberto. Emergency services are actively responding to the crisis to prevent further loss of life.
