The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN), in collaboration with churches and Christian organisations nationwide, will celebrate National Bible Day on May 5, 2025. The event is dedicated to honoring the Bible as a divine gift and promoting its values across Nigerian society.
According to a statement released on Thursday by BSN’s Manager of Media and Public Relations, Mr. Benjamin Mordi, the day is an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on biblical teachings, share its message, and commit to living by its principles.
Pastor Samuel Sanusi, General Secretary and CEO of the BSN, emphasized the importance of the observance, calling it “a special occasion to reaffirm our commitment to biblical values and to encourage everyone to experience the transformative power of God’s Word.”
He noted that just as the global community recognizes days such as Workers’ Day and World Literacy Day, it is equally fitting to dedicate a day to celebrate the Bible, which he described as “a gift from God to humanity.”
Sanusi also offered prayers for national peace and prosperity ahead of the celebration.
The BSN is encouraging individuals, churches, schools, and Christian organisations to mark the day by reading, meditating on, and applying biblical teachings in daily life.
As an interdenominational, non-profit organisation, the Bible Society of Nigeria has been at the forefront of Bible translation and distribution across the country.
To date, the BSN has translated the complete Bible into 27 Nigerian languages, with translation and revision projects ongoing in more than eight others. Completing a single Bible translation takes up to eight years and costs a minimum of ₦150 million.
