A protest broke out in Lagos, Nigeria, on Wednesday during the 2025 Democracy Day observance, as citizens took to the streets to express frustration over worsening economic conditions under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The demonstration, which began at the Ikeja Underbridge, drew a crowd of protesters demanding the reversal of key government policies. Central to their concerns were recent electricity tariff increases and the rising cost of living.
Participants held placards with messages such as “Reverse Electricity Tariff Hike” and “No one deserves a death sentence for protesting against hunger,” signaling widespread discontent.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the protest and assured the public that security forces were on site to maintain peace.
“There is adequate security on ground for celebrants and protesters alike. No cause for alarm. Your safety and security remain our priority,” he stated.Attach
