Congelese witchcraft practitioners are demanding recognition from the government through the issuance of practicing licenses.
Speaking to Africaworld Reports 365° program on Thursday, spokesperson for the informal ‘Zaire Black Magic’ association, Felidedgjiar Bemba said it is his members’ wish for the DR Congo government to issue practicing licenses to them, explaining that witchcraft is a science like any other.

Bemba’s comments follow the January 26, 2022 witchcraft practitioners conference that was held in Kasai province, attracting scores of night-flying men from 12 out of 26 provinces of the Congo.

The conference discussed pertinent issues including Black Magic skills transfer and commercialization and possible economic application.
Flying men in colored outfits showcased their varied skills which they believe could bolster economic growth.

Across the Congo, the narrative about witchcraft is changing as many begin to classify it as Africa’s indigenous performed art.
