This year’s Nigerian presidential election is shaping up to be one of the most hotly contested races in the country’s history. With a number of high-profile candidates in the race, the issues facing the Nigerian people are diverse and significant. Here we will discuss some of the key issues that are likely to influence the outcome of the upcoming election.

One of the most important issues in this year’s Nigerian presidential election is corruption. This has been a pervasive problem within the Nigerian government for many years, and the people are looking for a leader who will be able to confront and tackle it. Corruption takes many forms and is pervasive throughout all levels of government, with billions of dollars being stolen or misappropriated every year. This means that the citizens are not receiving the resources they need to improve their lives, and it is likely that the issue of corruption will be a central theme of the election.

Another key issue in this year’s Nigerian presidential election is the economy. The nation has endured a tumultuous economic climate for much of the past decade, with high levels of inflation, unemployment, and poverty. Many of the candidates are proposing solutions to remedy this situation, such as increased investment in infrastructure, job creation, and improved access to credit. However, there are also those who suggest that the government should prioritize reducing government spending and improving the business climate. This is sure to be a hotly debated topic during the election.

The issue of the rights of women and girls is also becoming increasingly important in the Nigerian political discourse. This is largely due to the increasing cases of gender-based violence in the society, as well as the widespread discrimination that women and girls face in many different areas such as education, employment and politics. The candidates will be keen to gain the votes of those who care about these issues, and it is likely that some form of legislative reform will be proposed during the campaign.

Lastly, the issue of security will be another major issue in the Nigerian presidential election, particularly in light of the on-going insurgency in the north-east of the country. As well as the threat posed by Boko Haram and other militant groups, the security of the nation more generally is also a concern. The Nigerian military is often criticized for its human rights abuses, and many people are demanding greater investment and reform in order to improve the security situation.

These are just some of the key issues that are likely to influence the outcome of the upcoming Nigerian presidential election. It is clear that the Nigerian people are facing an array of major challenges, and it will be up to the next president to provide the bold leadership necessary to tackle them.
