FOREIGN: Breaking Barriers: Kenya Ends Visa Requirements for all African Countries

Kenya’s President William Ruto has announced that the country will end visa requirements for all African visitors by the end of the year. President Ruto expressed the need to eliminate visa restrictions within Africa, emphasizing that such restrictions hinder business and entrepreneurial activities. This move aligns with the African Union’s long-standing goal of achieving visa-free travel across the continent. As of 2022, only Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin permitted entry to all African citizens without visas. However, Kenya, which ranked 31st on the Africa Visa Openness Index in 2022, aims to facilitate open travel for all Africans to promote unity and economic opportunities within the continent. President Ruto made this announcement during a summit focused on protecting the world’s largest rainforests.
