Bomb explosion that claimed about four lives has been reported at a Catholic Church in Marawi, Philippines.

The incident resulted in casualties, with four people killed and around 50 wounded. President Ferdinand Marcos attributed the attack to “foreign terrorists.” The bombing occurred during a morning service at Mindanao State University’s gymnasium. Security officials suspect it might be retaliation for recent military operations against Islamist militant groups. The university condemned the violence, suspended classes, and increased security measures. The city mayor urged unity among Muslim and Christian communities, emphasizing Marawi’s history of peaceful coexistence.

Military authorities pointed to possible involvement by Maute-ISIS militants, linking it to past extremist activity in the region. The Bangsamoro Government Chief Minister condemned the act and called for a thorough investigation. This incident reflects the ongoing struggle against militant groups in the region despite efforts for peace and self-rule among them.
