Ghanaian journalist Abdul Hakim Awal has made history by setting a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest tree hug, lasting 24 hours and 21 minutes. The record-breaking achievement was announced by GWR on their official platform, X, where they shared, “A 23-year-old journalist, Abdul Hakim Awal, hugged a tree for 24 hours and 21 minutes.”
Throughout the challenge, Awal had to remain standing and keep his arms wrapped around the tree without taking any breaks, demonstrating immense physical and mental endurance. Awal, passionate about environmental issues, stated that his motivation was to “promote reforestation and nature conservation in Ghana,” aiming to raise awareness about the importance of preserving forests.
He added that this record is not just a personal achievement but a call to action for greater environmental stewardship. By surpassing the previous 16-hour record set by Ugandan environmental activist Faith Ariokot, Awal hopes his effort will inspire others to take concrete steps in protecting nature and combating deforestation.
