Kenya Dominates Boston Marathon as Korir and Lokedi Shatter Records
Kenya once again stamped its authority on the global athletics stage as John Korir and Sharon Lokedi delivered commanding victories at the Boston Marathon, both rewriting the record books with stunning performances.
Korir, defending his title, surged ahead in the latter stages of the men’s race, pulling clear after the 32-kilometre mark.
The 29-year-old powered to the finish in 2:01:52, setting a new course record and eclipsing the long-standing mark set by Geoffrey Mutai in 2011.
His victory adds to an already impressive run of form, following triumphs in Chicago and Valencia.
Behind him, Tanzania’s Alphonce Simbu produced a strong late push to secure second place, overtaking Kenya’s Benson Kipruto in the closing stretch.
The women’s race saw Lokedi rise above a tightly packed field with a decisive break in the final miles.
She clocked 2:18:51 to set a new course record, finishing well ahead after steadily widening the gap in the closing kilometres.
Her performance marks another major milestone following previous wins in New York and Boston.
Fellow Kenyan Loice Chemnung claimed second place, while Mary Ngugi-Cooper completed the podium in third.
Together, their performances sealed a memorable day for Kenya, underlining the nation’s continued dominance in long-distance running.
