Nicki Minaj Reacts as Trump Stirs Global Debate Over Nigeria
American rapper Nicki Minaj has commended former United States President Donald Trump for designating Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over alleged cases of religious persecution.
Trump had made the announcement on Friday via his Truth Social account, alleging that Christianity was facing an existential threat in Nigeria due to what he described as “widespread killings” of Christians by radical Islamist groups.
He stated, “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘country of particular concern.’
The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening. We will stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world.”
Reacting on Saturday through a post on her X (formerly Twitter) handle, Minaj expressed gratitude for living in a country where citizens can freely practice their faith.
She wrote, “Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practising their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs to respect one another.”
Minaj also highlighted that many countries across the world suffer from religious intolerance and urged global attention to the issue.
“Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror, and it’s dangerous to pretend we don’t notice. Thank you to the President and his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer,” she added.
Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a country of concern has stirred global debate, with critics and political commentators describing his claims as exaggerated.
Nigerian officials and public figures, including former lawmaker Shehu Sani, have dismissed the assertion as misleading, insisting that religious freedom remains protected under the nation’s constitution.
