Nigeria 2027: Opposition Alliance Sparks Anxiety Within Tinubu’s Camp — Aisha Yesufu
Prominent activist and member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Aisha Yesufu, has suggested that growing cooperation among opposition figures ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election is causing unease within the camp of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a message shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, Yesufu claimed that the current political climate differs significantly from what the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) anticipated after the 2023 elections.
According to her, the emerging coalition of influential politicians across party lines—many now aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—is reshaping the political landscape and posing a serious challenge to the ruling party’s dominance.
She argued that this level of coordination among opposition leaders was largely unexpected, noting that it has intensified political tension as early positioning for 2027 gains momentum.
“Yes, there is fear within their camp—more than what we saw leading into 2023,” she wrote, urging supporters not to be distracted by what she described as attempts to weaken the growing movement.
Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, which brought Tinubu to power under the APC, was one of the most fiercely contested in recent history, with strong challenges from opposition parties.
Since then, internal party disputes, economic pressures, and governance debates have continued to shape public discourse.
In recent months, conversations around a possible grand opposition coalition have gained traction, with the ADC increasingly mentioned as a potential platform for unified political action.m
Analysts believe such an alliance, if sustained, could significantly influence the dynamics of the 2027 election.
While the presidency has not officially responded to Yesufu’s claims, the buildup to 2027 is already drawing attention, with both ruling and opposition camps quietly strategizing for what could become another highly competitive race.
