The Catholic Church in Benin City issued a decree for the beatification and canonization of 14-year-old Vivian Ogu, who heroically resisted an attempted rape and was tragically shot dead on November 15, 2009. The decree allows petitions in favor of or against her recognition as a saint, with a tribunal trial to decide. Pope included Vivian Ogu among 25 individuals globally for this process due to her exemplary life and courageous death.Archbishop Augustin Akubeze urged witnesses to Vivian’s martyrdom and holiness to contact the Archdiocesan Curia and requested her writings, offering to accept authenticated copies. Copies of the edict were posted on selected Catholic church doors and other locations for two months. Chancellor Very Rev Fr. Michael Oyanoafoh stressed the importance of Vivian’s example for moral values and society. #OMAGIST@AFRICAWORLDNEWS*
