Africa’s wealthiest individual, Aliko Dangote, has voiced his disappointment with his investments in Nigeria.
Speaking exclusively to PREMIUM TIMES, he cited backlash over his refinery project as a significant reason. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) reported substandard diesel quality from the Dangote Refinery, leading to accusations of monopoly and a halt in his steel industry ventures.
Dangote offered to sell his refinery to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC), expressing frustration over policy inconsistencies and the opposition to his efforts aimed at solving the country’s fuel crisis. He emphasized his lifelong commitment to Nigeria, stating, “I am ready to let go, let the NNPC buy me out, and run the refinery.”
Despite his disappointment, Dangote remains hopeful that his contributions will ultimately benefit Nigeria by providing high-quality products and creating jobs.
