The price of household kerosene has surged across Nigeria, with Akwa Ibom, Oyo, and Delta states seeing the highest average prices at N2,383.33, N2,375.00, and N2,309.52 per litre in July 2024, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The national average retail price for kerosene rose to N1,769.86 per litre, marking a 13.81% increase from June and a significant 40.37% rise from July 2023. The lowest prices were recorded in Adamawa (N1,171.11), Taraba (N1,191.30), and Borno (N1,381.58). Additionally, the South-South region reported the highest average retail price per litre at N2,086.61, while the North-East had the lowest at N1,411.97.

In July 2024, the average price per gallon of kerosene also increased, with consumers paying N5,762.10 on average, up by 1.11% from June. Jigawa state recorded the highest price per gallon at N7,250.00, while Rivers state had the lowest at N4,234.62. The continued rise in kerosene prices has raised concerns among consumers, especially in regions where prices are significantly higher.
