Federal Capital Territory Senator Ireti Kingibe criticized the Nigeria Police for their handling of a peaceful protest in Abuja.

She stated that the demonstration was non-violent until the FCT Police Command used live ammunition and tear gas against the protesters. Kingibe emphasized that there were no instances of violence, looting, or vandalism by the protesters. She strongly criticized the actions of the Nigeria Police, stating that the demonstration was peaceful until law enforcement opened fire and used tear gas on the protesters.

In an earlier tweet, she expressed her heartbreak over the violence between the police and protesters, urging for dialogue and alternative solutions to prevent further bloodshed. She called for unity, empathy, and a commitment to peace and good governance. Addressing criticism, Senator Kingibe reiterated that the protest remained peaceful until police intervention, with no reports of vandalism or looting
