13-year-old girl tragically lost her life in Awka, Anambra State, while assisting a food vendor on Ziks Avenue. During a heavy rainfall, their wheelbarrow was swept away by a flood. The girl attempted to retrieve it but fell into a drainage and was carried away by the fast-moving water. Despite efforts to rescue her, it was too late, and she didn’t survive. The food vendor, not related to the girl but responsible for her, was devastated and worried about informing the girl’s parents. Ziks Avenue is prone to flooding due to inadequate drainage systems and blockages caused by debris, making it a hazardous heavy rains.
