TODAY IN HISTORY – 28th Nov, 2025 – Africa World News

The best thing about the past is that it shows what not to bring into the future.

By far, the statement above is the bold representation of the importance of history.

 

Whether or not we believe it, the beautiful future we have always looked forward to is built by our conscious efforts to make it even better.

 

In the past as it were, here are a few historical events that went down today in history

On this day in 1814, the Times of London became the first newspaper to be produced on a steam-powered printing press, built by the German team of Koenig & Bauer.

Still on this day in 1920, FIDAC (The Interallied Federation of War Veterans Organisations), the first international organization of war veterans was established in Paris, France.

According to Today in History, on this day in 1958, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, and Gabon became autonomous republics within the French Community.

It was on this day in 1958 that the recorded the first successful flight of SM-65 Atlas; the first operational intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), developed by the United States and the first member of the Atlas rocket family.

Today in History reveals that in 1966, Michel Micombero overthrew the monarchy of Burundi and made himself the first president.

In 1967, on this day, the first pulsar (PSR B1919+21, in the constellation of Vulpecula) was discovered by two astronomers Jocelyn Bell Burnell and Antony Hewish.

Sadly in 1987 on this day, South African Airways Flight 295 crashed into the Indian Ocean, killing all 159 people on board.

On this day in 2002, suicide bombers blow up an Israeli-owned hotel in Mombasa, Kenya; their colleagues fail in their attempt to bring down Arkia Israel Airlines Flight 582 with surface-to-air missiles.

According to Today in History, on this day in 2014, gunmen set off three bombs at the central mosque in the northern Nigerian city of Kano killing at least 120 people.

Regrettably on this day in 2020, over seven hundred civilians are massacred by the Ethiopian National Defense Force and Eritrean Army in Aksum, Ethiopia.
