Trump Shrugs Off Age Debate, Says He is in Top Shape
Former US President Donald Trump has brushed aside renewed questions about his age and physical condition, insisting that he remains fit and healthy despite growing public scrutiny.
Trump made the remarks in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, responding to online speculation and media commentary about his appearance at official functions. The discussion follows viral images and reports suggesting he looked tired during meetings and wore makeup on his hand at public events.
Reacting sharply to the claims, Trump said the issue of his health had been exaggerated beyond reason. “We’re talking about health again, for what feels like the 25th time,” he told the interviewers, stressing that there was nothing wrong with him.
At 79, Trump would be 82 by the end of a potential second term, a milestone that would make him the oldest serving president in US history. That reality has kept his physical fitness in the spotlight, especially as he remains active on the political stage.
Trump dismissed suggestions that he had fallen asleep during meetings, arguing that still photographs had been misleading. According to him, some images captured him mid-blink and were wrongly presented as moments of fatigue.
“Sometimes they snap a picture right when I’m blinking, and that’s what they run with,” he said.
He also clarified earlier comments about a medical test that had stirred debate.
Trump explained that he underwent a CT scan, not an MRI as previously implied, noting that the confusion gave critics unnecessary room for speculation. One of his doctors had earlier confirmed the procedure was a CT scan.
Looking back, Trump admitted he regretted mentioning the test publicly. “In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have talked about it. It gave them something to push, even though there’s absolutely nothing wrong,” he said.
The former president maintained that he has no underlying medical issues and described his health in glowing terms. “My health is perfect,” he said firmly.
Trump revealed that he takes a daily 325-milligram dose of aspirin, even though doctors have suggested a lower amount.
He acknowledged that the dosage sometimes causes bruising, which he said explains why makeup is occasionally applied to his hand.
“They’d prefer I take the smaller dose,” he said. “But I’ve been on this one for years.”
On physical activity, Trump said he does not follow a structured exercise routine apart from playing golf. He admitted that gym workouts, including treadmill exercises, hold little appeal for him. “I don’t enjoy it. It’s boring,” he said.
He also addressed reports about changes to his daily schedule, insisting the adjustments had nothing to do with stamina or alertness. “I’ve never been someone who sleeps a lot,” Trump added.
