The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially lifted its visa ban on Nigerians, which had been in effect since October 2022, according to Information Minister Mohammed Idris. This change follows what Idris described as “mutually beneficial negotiations” between the two nations.
Effective immediately, Nigerians planning to visit the UAE will need to adhere to new requirements, including submitting documents to verify their identity and travel history to obtain a verification number for visa applications. However, children aged 13 or under are exempt from these requirements.
The lifting of the visa ban is expected to improve bilateral relations and boost travel and tourism between the UAE and Nigeria. The UAE had initially imposed the ban due to concerns over immigration violations and fraudulent activities.
Information Minister Idris emphasized the importance of the new verification process, stating that it aims to ensure the integrity and security of the UAE’s immigration system while facilitating legitimate travel for Nigerians.
The announcement has been welcomed by Nigerian travelers and businesses who rely on the UAE as a key destination for tourism and commerce. The reinstatement of visa access is expected to have a positive impact on both economies, fostering increased trade and cultural exchange.
