The opposition Alliance, United Party for National Development -UPND- leader, Hakainde Hichilema was barred to fly to Luapula Province for campaigns hours after clearance on Monday.

The UPND leadership expressed grave concern over the alleged continued refusal by the Civil Aviation Authority –CAA- and the Zambia Air Force -ZAF- to permit its leader to fly for political activities ahead of next week’s elections.

Party Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa told local media that Hichilema could not fly to Luapula Province, Mansa District following the cancellation of his permit by authorities for unknown reasons.

Mweetwa further alleged that the relevant authorities are working under pressure from government to limit the opposition leader’s political activities.

He has since called on Zambians to clear Hichilema to fly the country’s skies through the ballot box on August 12.
