As Africa commemorates its 62nd Africa Freedom Day, President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia has called on African nations to unite in advancing peace, economic development, and social inclusion.
In a message marking the occasion, Hichilema emphasized the importance of collective action to foster prosperity, with a special focus on empowering youth and women through job creation and transparent governance.
He honored the legacy of Africa’s liberation heroes, including Kenneth Kaunda, Julius Nyerere, and Kwame Nkrumah, whose leadership laid the foundation for independence and continental solidarity.
Hichilema stressed that today’s leaders must uphold their legacy by pushing for a fairer global financial system that enables sustainable development across Africa.
Recognizing both Africa’s achievements and ongoing challenges, Hichilema championed Pan-African unity as a key to overcoming obstacles and unlocking the continent’s full potential.
His address underscored the need for renewed commitment to collaboration, equity, and long-term reform in shaping Africa’s future.
