Trump Stirs Global Outrage After Posting Image of Himself as Venezuela’s Acting President
Former US President Donald Trump has sparked fresh international controversy after sharing a doctored image of himself portraying the “acting president of Venezuela.”
The post, shared on his Truth Social platform, comes amid rising tension between Washington and Caracas following claims that Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured and flown to the United States in a dramatic operation.
In the image, Trump styled himself as the new leader of the South American nation, declaring that he had assumed the role of Venezuela’s acting president from January 2026.
The 79-year-old politician later suggested that the United States would take control of Venezuela’s political and economic affairs, saying the move was aimed at preventing the country from falling back into long-standing instability.
“We don’t want another leader stepping in and creating the same problems Venezuela has faced for years,” Trump said.
Following the reported removal of Maduro, Venezuela’s vice-president and oil minister, Delcy Rodríguez, was sworn in as interim president.
However, Trump warned that Rodríguez could face tougher consequences than her predecessor if she failed to cooperate with Washington.
He also claimed that Venezuela would hand over between 30 and 50 million barrels of oil to the United States and demanded that the country cut ties with China, Cuba, Russia and Iran, insisting that Caracas partner exclusively with Washington on oil production.
In response, Rodríguez said Venezuela was ready to open up its oil sector to the US.
Trump’s post and comments have since triggered heated reactions across diplomatic circles, with critics accusing him of provoking a fresh geopolitical crisis in Latin America.
