Sole Air India Crash Survivor Seeks Answers One Year After Disaster That Killed 260

The only passenger to survive the Air India crash that claimed 260 lives in June 2025 has called for full disclosure and accountability, saying he still lives with unanswered questions, deep trauma, and financial strain one year after the tragedy.

Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British national, survived the crash that involved a Boeing 787 Dreamliner which went down shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport, striking a medical college in one of India’s worst aviation disasters in recent years.

The crash killed 241 people on board the London-bound flight, including 169 Indian nationals and 52 Britons, while 19 others on the ground also died. Dozens more were injured in the aftermath.

Ramesh, who lost his brother in the incident, has repeatedly described his survival as unimaginable, but says the emotional and psychological impact has continued long after the crash itself.

Speaking ahead of the first anniversary, he said families affected by the disaster still lack clarity on what caused the accident, insisting that transparency remains essential for closure.

Preliminary investigations released shortly after the crash suggested that both fuel control switches on the aircraft moved to the “cut-off” position shortly after takeoff, stopping fuel supply to the engines. Authorities say the full investigation is still nearing completion.

Ramesh has also spoken about ongoing financial hardship, with limited support provided since the disaster and difficulty returning to normal work and daily life.

His representatives say he continues to support his family while coping with lasting psychological effects.

Civil legal action is also being pursued as families of victims continue to wait for final investigative findings that could determine accountability.

Air India and its parent company, the Tata Group, say they have met with Ramesh and remain in contact, adding that support efforts are ongoing.

As the anniversary approaches, the central demand from the only survivor and many affected families remains unchanged, clear answers on what caused the crash and whether it could have been prevented.
