In the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the ongoing in patients in dire need of medical care. , South Kivu, struggle to provide adequate treatment due to critical medicine shortages and overcrowded facilities.
“We run out of medicine every day,” lamented Dr. Musole Mulamba Muva, head of a local hospital. Families, usually tasked with feeding patients, are barred from visiting due to the high risk of virus transmission. Despite reassurances from officials like Cris Kacita, who noted that 115 tonnes of medicine from the World Bank are en route, the situation remains bleak.
WHO is implementing new strategies, but challenges persist, particularly in conflict-hit regions. Dr. Samuel Boland from the WHO emphasized efforts to reach these areas using alternative methods like radio broadcasts. The ongoing crisis highlights the urgent need for the promised international aid and resources to arrive.
