Erdogan blames Israel for Iran conflict, warns war is fuelling global strain
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has sharply criticized Israel over the ongoing conflict with Iran, accusing its leadership of driving what he described as an unlawful war with far-reaching consequences.
Speaking during a parliamentary meeting of his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Ankara, Erdoğan said Israel should be held chiefly accountable for escalating tensions in the region.
According to him, the conflict has gone beyond a regional crisis, warning that it is now placing economic pressure on countries worldwide while deepening instability across the Middle East.
The Turkish leader also took aim at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, suggesting that the continuation of hostilities could serve political interests. He cautioned that prolonged violence would only extend suffering and complicate efforts toward peace.
Despite the criticism, Erdoğan expressed hope for a resolution, noting that Turkey remains committed to supporting efforts aimed at de-escalation and a peaceful outcome, even if it requires taking an active role in the process.
