Kenyan Citizens Demand President Ruto Resign Within 48 Hours

Kenyan citizens have issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding President William Ruto’s resignation, advocating for a new government committed to “transparency, accountability, and good governance.”

This follows a viral Twitter declaration that stated, “We no longer recognize William Ruto as the President of Kenya.” The public’s outrage persists even after Ruto withdrew a controversial finance bill proposing tax hikes to address Kenya’s substantial debt of nearly 10 trillion shillings ($78 billion), which is around 70% of GDP. Ruto warned that without the tax increases, vital development projects would face significant financial shortfalls.

The protests are driven by frustrations over widespread corruption, economic instability, rising living costs, and high unemployment rates. Demonstrators have taken to the streets, criticizing the administration for incompetence, mismanagement, and failure to address the nation’s pressing needs. In response, police in anti-riot gear have used rubber bullets and tear gas against protesters, blocking roads leading to Ruto’s office at State House and parliament. The situation highlights the intense public demand for reform and a more responsive government.
