A devastating wildfire in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles has forced over 30,000 residents to evacuate. The fire, now spreading across 1,261 acres, is intensifying due to strong winds and challenging terrain.
Los Angeles City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson confirmed the declaration of a State of Emergency to control the fire.
As of Tuesday, over 250 firefighters are battling the flames, supported by helicopters, ambulances, and additional resources. “The fire continues to grow, aided by gusty winds reaching up to 30 mph,” said Fire Chief Kristin M. Crowley. With evacuations affecting 10,000 households, residents have faced traffic gridlock, with many abandoning their vehicles to flee.
Governor Gavin Newsom announced that resources had been pre-positioned across California, and FEMA has provided a Fire Management Assistance Grant. Southern California Edison has also initiated power shutdowns to prevent further fire risks, affecting about 8,600 customers.
Los Angeles officials are working tirelessly to protect lives and contain the destructive blaze.
