Jude Ezenwafor, the governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, is in critical condition after surviving an assassination attempt in Abuja on Friday night. Gunmen, suspected to be hired assassins, ambushed Ezenwafor, shooting him multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Ezenwafor was quickly transported to a private hospital in the capital for emergency treatment. Despite circulating rumors of his death on Sunday, sources close to the situation confirmed that he remains alive, though his condition is still dire.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an investigation into the attack. Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the ongoing inquiry but noted that the full details and motives behind the attack are still unclear.
This violent assault has raised serious concerns over the safety of political candidates as the Anambra governorship election approaches. Calls for a swift and thorough investigation have grown louder, with many demanding accountability for those responsible.
