NIGERIA: Kalu Criticizes Following ‘Smaller Countries’ Like Kenya, Calls for Unique Nigerian Approach Amid Nationwide Protest Plan

Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has expressed concerns about the planned nationwide protests in Nigeria, suggesting they could harm the country and the continent.

Speaking on Arise Television’s News program, Kalu emphasized that “Nigeria cannot be seen to be copying the footsteps of ‘smaller countries’ like Kenya.” He highlighted Nigeria’s role as a leader in Africa, warning that the protests might set a precedent across the continent.

Kalu called for patience with President Tinubu’s administration, which he said is working to address issues stemming from “16 years of PDP rule.” The planned protests, set to occur from August 1 to August 10, 2024, have been organized under the banner #EndBadGovernance, with participants voicing concerns over widespread hunger and inflation.
