Trump pauses Iran strike as surprise Tehran proposal sparks last-minute push for peace deal

Tensions between the United States and Iran have entered a tense pause after President Donald Trump said a planned military strike was put on hold following what he described as “serious negotiations” involving a new proposal from Tehran.

According to officials cited in regional reports, Iran has tabled fresh ideas aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, including possible concessions on its nuclear programme and broader security arrangements.

The development has triggered cautious optimism, though no agreement has been confirmed and major differences remain unresolved.

Trump stated on social media that several Gulf states urged Washington to delay military action to allow diplomatic efforts more time. He said the proposed strike was suspended but warned that the US military remains ready if talks collapse.

Behind the scenes, countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates are said to be playing quiet mediating roles as fears grow that renewed fighting could destabilise the region further and disrupt global energy markets.

Reports also suggest Iran’s proposal may include long-term limits on its nuclear activities and possible arrangements involving enriched uranium, though these claims have not been independently verified.

At the same time, Washington is reportedly considering temporary sanctions relief as part of negotiations.

Despite the diplomatic movement, the situation remains fragile. Both sides continue to exchange threats, and analysts warn that the ceasefire currently in place could easily break down if talks stall.

Regional security concerns have also escalated, with drone activity and sporadic strikes still being reported in nearby Gulf states and parts of the broader conflict zone.

For now, the crisis sits at a critical crossroads: either the latest diplomatic push leads to a breakthrough—or the pause becomes only a brief delay before renewed escalation.
